Everybody feels lonely sometimes - it's not something that just happens to kids. Grown ups, old people, and probably even your dog, have times when they feel lonely.
What is loneliness?
Loneliness is a feeling of being alone - having no one who understands you or wants to spend time with you. You don't have to be alone to feel lonely - you can feel lonely in a crowd of people or even sitting next to someone. Loneliness is something that happens inside. For example, it might be that you:
- have come home from school to an empty house and so you are feeling lonely because you really are alone
- are out visiting with your parents and there are only adults around (having boring adult conversations) and there is no one for you to play with
- are at school with all your friends but you have a problem that is worrying you and that you haven't told anyone about, and so you are finding it hard to join in the fun
Can you think of any times or places when you have felt lonely?
