What's helpful when you get these feelings?

Luckily, if you do feel worried or nervous, there are things you can do to help manage those feelings and usually they will go away quite quickly.

It helps to talk about how you are feeling, and to make sure that you still get enough sleep, eat well, have fun and remember to breathe!

Talking about how you are feeling

It's important to let someone know how you are feeling - most people have had those same feelings from time to time too and will understand what's going on for you. I wonder what it might have been like for mum or dad when they were at school and had to speak in front of the class or do something difficult. Have you ever asked them if THEY got nervous at school?

Who would be good to speak to?

  • mum or dad
  • a trusted adult, like a relative
  • a friend
  • your teacher - they will help you know what's likely to happen at school and how to prepare
  • a counsellor at Kids Helpline
