Family Fights

When fighting happens, sometimes you might feel like screaming and yelling to be heard or understood, or your parents might scream or yell at you! Unfortunately, often screaming and yelling can make things worse and mean that you are less likely to listen and understand what each other are saying. It seems to be if one person in a fight yells, the other person yells even louder!

Luckily, this works the other way too. If one person is yelling and the other person speaks in a softer voice, then usually the one who is yelling, quietens down as well.

Brothers and sisters fighting

Brothers and sisters can be great fun to have around AND they can also be annoying! While many kids are lucky enough to become the best of friends with their brothers or sisters, it's also common for brothers and sisters to fight. For most kids it's a mixture of both - sometimes they play well together and sometimes they fight!

Often kids ring us to talk about things that have happened with their brothers or sisters that have led to a fight. This is often stuff like their little brother breaking something that was important to them or their big sister teasing them.

What are the things you love about having brothers and sisters around? What are the things that drive you crazy and lead to fights? How have you sorted out those fights?

Sorting out fights with your brothers and sisters can actually be a great way to practice some of the things you need to learn to get along with other people outside your family. You can learn things like:

  • sharing
  • valuing the way someone else sees life
  • learning how to work together and sort out problems
  • how to deal with anger in a way that doesn't hurt other people
