Kids Helpline is committed to protecting and securing your privacy and any information provided to us about you.

All personal information collected and held by Kids Helpline is protected in accordance with Privacy legislation and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What is personal or sensitive information?

Personal information may include, for example, your name, address, contact details and email address. It may also include sensitive information about your medical history.

How does Kids Helpline collect and use your information?

Kids Helpline will only collect your personal or sensitive information by fair, lawful and non-intrusive means and use information collected and recorded for the provision of Kids Helpline services. Generally we will only collect this information if you provide it to us.

All information held is retained and destroyed in accordance with applicable laws.

Information that may be collected online:

  • Cookies: A cookie is a small file stored on your computer which contains information about your preferences when you visit a website. Amongst other uses, cookies enable websites to be customised for individual users and allow for easier browsing. Kids Helpline only uses cookies for these purposes.   • E-mail addresses: We will collect your email address if you provide it to us. This is in order to provide a counselling service to you and to communicate with you and will not be used for any other purpose without your express consent.
  • IP addresses: Each time you visit our site we collect and store the IP address of the internet connection you are using. This number is assigned by your Internet Service Provider. We collect this information anonymously for statistical purposes.

Will Kids Helpline share your information with others?

Kids Helpline will NOT, without your prior approval:

  • Use your personal or sensitive information for fundraising, advertising or the promotion of Kids Helpline, or
  • Disclose information or distribute personal or sensitive information about you unless the information must be released because of a law, or to prevent harm to you or others.

Reasonable steps will be taken to protect information about you from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, changes or disclosure.

How does Kids Helpline ensure information is up-to-date?

You are responsible for informing Kids Helpline of any changes to your personal details or circumstances. Kids Helpline will take reasonable steps to ensure information collected is accurate, complete and up-to-date by undertaking regular audits.
